SwipeBack started with a chance encounter at a conference in Southern California.

I saw his badge — payment processing — and said, “I used to be in that world.”

We traded stories about the payments industry and everything wrong with it. Most with inside knowledge stay quiet and take the money. We weren’t built to shut up.

If you’ve been on the inside, you know the truth: the complexity is on purpose. Contracts are dense, statements are unreadable, and the jargon — “discount rates,” “non-qualified fees,” “basis points over interchange” — is there to make sure you stop asking questions.

That confusion is how processors quietly take a cut of your revenue, month after month.
